I took a long, lonely road Just to sing before you now Actually it wasn’t all alone There were bodies all along the shoulder One of them was waving Or was the arm stuck in the air Or was it a leg? And none of them asleep They had moved on from dreams Dreams of peaceful meadows And the distant hum-of-autos Sometimes a trail of smoke Drifted ahead like a dragon’s body And then a snake And then a parade of worms Purple clouds of fireweed Vines too drifting away from the street Just like me - they long to be Getting out of Dodge
2.
Well it’s been longer than you know You thought that was me But I didn’t show Body snatchers got nothin’ on this girl I can act like a zombie on top of the world Face like a TV - food is my DVD Wanna see a scary movie Just feed some soy to me Advertising this thought your way I’ve got a steel-trap mind And a body of clay Be cautious when you cross my path If I wanted a race car I woulda gone straight to the track But you’re like a Benz, bro Dependable and strong So let’s breathe together Make it last real long We could make it last real long We could fake the club out Find some decent substrate There we’d make love that lasts I’m like a chemist Inventing new potions Words like children Flow from my oceans Deep throated moans of gears in my machine The tides out and the table’s set And again I’m washed clean The whir and hum of ancestral voices Choose who you listen to Or they’ll make their own choices They’ll pick earthly delights if you let them Best give in sometimes Before you upset them (ooh make love that lasts) We could walk to the park And there dance in its darkness We could crack this code that is safe and warm And we could make love that lasts We could fake the club out Find some decent substrate We could break this club in half

Before telling dragons where to lay Point out all the ruins where the chicks can play Common sense pray pay my way Wrong in song-ing well there’s no such way Ring the wronging in the silent day Common sense may pave my way In brambles sometimes But the birds do give glittery warbles And I’m pickin’ up every marble I’m flicking tear-drops back into the bay Before I tell myself that I have nothing to say Let me sing a line that leads into waves Underwater Bite the hook and Feel much hotter Where there’s a jig You can’t be bothered But hold onto the things that matter You wore the scales of the mad hatter Whose clothes were made to fit your father But surface now and breathe another Breath can fill your chest with better weather

What is this fiery furnace? There is nothing for me in this way That’s what I crave Release my life the same as it came And for this I need not wait Close my eyes to joy and pain As for delight I can dwell in this light See my molten body in the shining moon Oh! To feel nothing Betwixt the tomb and the womb Oh! To feel nothing Betwixt the tomb and the womb There is nothing for me in this way There is nothing for me in this way Nothing waits for me in its way Nothing waits for me in its way There is nothing for me in its way

Carry would you help me with this package Thanks to you I’ve come this far Rob I’m still taking you for granted What I wouldn’t do for a brand new car She’s a good gal a perfect friend Uh, but who’s this guy Rob That she hangs out with? Who is my friend When I’m in need Of a new place to start? Someone that takes advantage Of a sunny disposition Who may have a bad back But has a forgiving heart What’s enough to make you cry Losing your sight or opening up your eyes? She is a friend when I have a thing to fetch He has more fun and he’s harder to catch Carry’s always got a hand to lend But it’s a nighty-oo and hashi tens She’s a heavenly civil servant Heavy handed Rob he doesn’t deserve it Don’t know what you got til its gone Wonder what else I’m sittin’ on Should it remain any day all known Uh have uh set al pino of this precious stone What’s enough to make you cry? Losing your sight or opening up your eyes? She is a friend when I have a thing to fetch He has more fun and he’s harder to catch I will Carry I will Rob I will Carry I will Rob I will Carry I will Rob

A ghostly appearance Into an unfamiliar place A shine to your picture Of paint on face Dead to that world But it held with its hooks The corpse of a moment To be frozen in books You followed some call That wasn’t your name Now you’ve learned what to let pass Overhead like the clouds I’ll take the hissing of noise shelf Any day Over a crushed, compressed spirit Made to stay in its cage
7.
Nature’s got a way Of keeping herself occupied Of keeping track of who lives And who dies Not that there’s no inbetween to report I know a few creatures Alive with a sort of Death-defying look in their eyes It’s not fair to say we know Just who is who We can’t walk in their shoes Just by reciting their lines But it seems like we can say We’ve been there many times Like the mockingbird eats The black widow spider Piece by piece to eventually hide her Beneath his dark feathers Surrounding bones Heartbeats will accompany moans You’ve got a long list to trade You’ve got a lot to let go Spiritually would you believe We’ve got a lot of baggage to leave Would you believe We have a lot to let go Simple can at first sound so terrible It can sound so vague and like What is there for me to hold onto? Well how about a dirt clod? A ripe strawberry? What about a nightingale’s song? The mockingbird eats the black widow spider Piece by piece to eventually hide her Beneath his dark feathers Surrounding bones Heartbeats will accompany moans Heartbeats will accompany moans

How real is a scream When it’s pointed out from your face When you’re not even conscious Of your feet, of your place Wake Rise from your body Move Move on from dreams Sleep Sleep left you longing For one thing you could touch And keep Love don’t own nobody A song heard in time A mantra ringing in infinity Echoing in the divine But to go against God Is to invite a new start Is to invite a new start Say a thing Say a thing enough times You say the thing unsaid Sleep Sleep left you longing For one thing you could touch And keep

To tie rocks to the clouds - you’re willing Lean your head on a puddle pillow Check the sky filling up with feathers Hear the calls from the stream of ganders Soft as down let us go together Settle down and the rains we’ll gather Light as trot ne’er a thought to struggle Ours are the colors of the rainbow puddle Once upon an island A tumbleweed cartwheeled in from out there Some call it home The place where some roam It couldn’t be a mountainous high rise Cause you would feel the rivers pull downward You’ll stand and stare at majestic mountains Bare feet in tideflats Sinking past your ankles! Driftwood tugs at your hands and shoulders Take me home it softly mutters Near a trail head is nodding enter Them baby nettles cradle in the crib of winter Once a seed caught in breeze Thought to be a weed From far the wind did take you Over oceans and a nation It couldn’t be a mountainous high rise Cause you would feel the rivers pull downward You’ll stand and stare at majestic mountains Feet in tideflats Oh What is this place that you get a window To look through but the shudder is closing You’ll tap the glass mouthing the words “thank you” Blinds unfurling Will they open again?

When you hear me comin’ round That’s the breaks I’m getting so used to this sound That’s the breaks I found pieces on the ground Told myself - that’s the breaks That’s what it takes Took pieces flying off my ship To see what’s at stake It’s all over town now Though I’ve already wound down It’s looming like a cloud now It has exhausted my clown now Now my fear is of stopping As my breaks go on copping An eagle’s diving call My heart at the bottom of the fall Awaiting devourer That’s the breaks That’s the breaks That’s the breaks That’s the breaks That’s the breaks That’s the breaks That’s the breaks

When two becomes one That one will always return Just like water turns to steam It runs back again out from the dream Ah - ah - ah - ah - ah - ah When two becomes one One looks into one’s self And is startled at the scene Of the brightness of entangled beams Ah - ah - ah - ah - ah - ah Your arms stretched out to the sides Your feet walk in a line And though you’ll wobble at the knees Keep your head up on this balance beam Ah - ah - ah - ah - ah - ah It’s true that how we are one Look close you’ll see no seams In that the fabric and the thread Are of the same sheep Ah - ah - ah - ah - ah - ah When your hands find They’re holding others too All the hardships sail away All the hardships sail away All the hardships sail away

Top of the mornin’ baby You were born at the top of the world Doesn’t matter that you’re boy or a girl Born at the top of the world Don’t let the problems of this world get you too down You were born with a flaming crown And as royalty of fire The stars watch your life To guide and admire The route you choose will be your own And I’ll always be here as if inside your phone It’s the stars It’s the stars, baby It’s the stars And it’s easy to say that it’s the stars Cause it’s the stars It’s the stars Top of the morning baby You were born at the top of the world Doesn’t matter you’re a boy or girl You were born at the top of the world You will see such amazing sights Watch a hawk catch a rabbit in headlights Peer down on a giant amoeba Creeping slow through the night It’s the stars It’s the stars It’s the stars
